She arrived at the Sanctuary in 2008, coming from a zoo in Goiânia, Brazil. Not much was known about her past and true history, but there is information that she was used for breeding and was the mother of, at least, 3 chimpanzees who, fortunately, were rescued and taken to Sanctuaries.

Male chimpanzee Guga was born in a commercial breeding facility in Paraná, southern Brazil, in 1999. The place used to reproduce chimpanzees to sell to circuses and zoos. At the age of three months old, he was “adopted” by the businessman Pedro Ynterian, who in a short time realized that the chimpanzee was not a pet.

Born in a zoo on May 20, 2000, Johny was rejected by his mother. At five months old, he was received by the Starostik couple, living with them in their house until he was one year old, as he needed special care, such as a bottle every two hours.
