Martin (Sergipe) Chimpanzee
He arrived at the Sanctuary in 2014, along with the chimpanzees Maria das Dores and Jamaica, with whom he lived in a precarious zoo.
Date of birth: 1985
Origin: Boa Luz Resort Hotel (Sergipe, Northeast Brazil)
Sanctuary: Sorocaba, São Paulo/Brazil

He arrived at the Sanctuary in 2014, along with the chimpanzees Maria das Dores and Jamaica. He lived on a precarious and very small island with the two females and did not allow them to eat, as the food was not enough for all three. Because of this, he was greatly feared and solitary.

Shortly after arriving at the Sanctuary, he changed his behavior. He maintained his dominant attitude but became more cheerful and playful. Martin enjoys interacting and calls others to play by running from one room to another. He really likes fruit popsicles that he receives as enrichment and is calmer when eating, quite different from how he was in the past.
