He arrived at the Sanctuary in 2009, coming from a zoo in the interior of São Paulo, where he had lived for many years. Previously, he had worked in a circus and had a reputation for being very violent: reports say he had killed a handler.
However, since arriving at the Sanctuary, he never showed aggression. Lilico was very intelligent, affectionate, and gentle. He enjoyed the company of people he trusted and liked to drink water from small cups and bottles.
Reports say that during a period after the circus when he lived at the Bauru Zoo in São Paulo, he managed to escape. He was eventually found in the outskirts of the city, at a bar table, drinking cachaça in the company of three drunk men.
He passed away in 2020.
