Junior arrived at the Sanctuary in 2005, coming from Brasília Zoo, Brazil. He was addicted to cigarettes, a habit he acquired in a circus (Beto Carrero’s enterprise) where he remained for many years. He also spent time at Belo Horizonte zoo when he was “retired” from the circus, before going to Brasília.

Junior was a robust chimpanzee and weighed over 100 kg. He had a very strong history of suffering and lived well in the Sanctuary for the last 7 years of his life, stimulated to exercise. He lived with Jango for much of his time.

He passed away on June 9, 2012.
