Jully lives at the Great Apes Sanctuary of Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil, since 2002.
It is known that she belonged to a circus in Northeast Brazil, which went bankrupt and sold her to an animal trader. As she had no legal documentation, she ended up being sent to the Piracicaba zoo, in the countryside of São Paulo. Until in 2002, the zoo closed and she was finally transferred to the Sanctuary.
Jully was the faithful companion of the chimpanzee Caco until his death, playing a very important hole in his recovery. She was very affectionate, gentle, and even got jealous of her companion. They were always together and liked to stay in the enclosures near the lake. Jully enjoys climbing into the baskets on the platforms to observe the view. She likes to drink cold liquids from a bottle with a straw and loves to eat fresh vegetables.
