Zoo is not regular

Zoonit does not have a registry approved by Ibama. How can it defend it has the right to keep animals if it does not accomplish what is defined by the national legislation for zoos?

What’s the point of having environmental laws if they are not respected and a zoo can be kept opened with no official registration, receiving animal from public departments?

See the history of Zoo according to a research sent for us by environmental NGOs:

Summary

§ A civil enquiry is opened on March, 29,1995.

§ Zoonit is closed by Ibama on May, 15, 1996.

§ Zoonit is reopened by Ibama on October, 18, 1996, still under irregular conditions.

§ On November,11, 1996, some monkeys run away of the zoo – and also a lion in the beginning of the year, according to a newspaper.

§ Ibama’s inspection on February, 14, 1997. The institute decided to transfer the animals to registered breeding centers.

§ March, 21, 2001: Ibama’s inspection with the participation of Justice prosecutor Dr. Daniel Lima Ribeiro. In the prosecutor’s report it is listed several irregularities and it is pointed that the zoo does not have a license of Ibama to be opened.

§ End of 2002: Zoonit is closed again.

§ Beginning of 2003: Zoonit is reopened.

§ August, 31, 2008: Ibama’s report shows that the demands required in a Conduction Adjustment Term are not accomplished and Zoonit asked for more dead-line.

§ Until today Zoonit does not have a definitive registration.
