According to a statement of Project R & R, which has been struggling, as several environmental organizations, including GAP Project, for the official retirement of nearly 1,000 chimpanzees in the hands of the NIH – Institute of Health North American -, the U.S. Government decided that will do it immediately.
This decision is considered to be a victory by the organizations that fight against torture and invasive procedures, on the pretext of biomedical research; but it still leaves in limbo up to 50 individuals who will be kept as a “reserve of emergency torturers.”
Now it is expected that the Government use the money from NIH, which supported the torture of those unfortunate for decades, to improve the official sanctuary that will receive them and where they will live by the end of his days.
The 50 innocent chimpanzees who may still be tortured, and dozens more that are still in the hands of private torturers, must also be accompanied by advocacy animal rights organizations, so they can be taken out of the hands of their current and potential torturers.
