Not only in Sorocaba, São Paulo state, there is a case of a chimpanzee who lives in isolation for years and suffering with the harassment of the public. In Recife, capital of Pernambuco state, northeast of Brazil, there is a more dramatic case at Zoo “Dois Irmãos”. There is another male chimp, unnamed, isolated and under the sun. He takes refuge in a cubicle (photo) during the day, to get rid of the strong sun.
Newspaper “Olhar Animal” conveys a story mentioning that the State Prosecutor’s Office is considering asking for the closing of the Zoo.
After a year of investigation of the situation Zoo and after the appearance of the last dead blue macaws, the prosecutor concluded that it cannot continue as it is.
The Environment Secretary of Pernambuco informed the prosecutor that it is negotiating to pass the administration of the zoo to an NGO, so that it can raise sufficient funds for its management.
GAP Project is heading to Pernambuco authorities and IBAMA and affirming it is available to receive the chimpanzee who lives there alone, in terrible conditions of survival.
We are going to start a national campaign for his redemption and other animals that do not deserve to live in daily suffering in a location that is not able to sustain them.
