SOROCABA SANCTUARY

During November on Sorocaba Sanctuary there were born two females spider monkeys of red face (Ateles paniscus), both abandoned by their mothers. We are taking care of them and when they are strong enough they will be reintegrated to their mothers\’ routine.

Nica and Teca are with us for more than 8 years. One of them had already had a baby and abandoned him. When we found him it was too late. Now, when we realized they were pregnant, we started to track them diary, to witness the birth. Again, and this time both in a period of two weeks, they gave birth to the babies and abandoned them.

Dr. Camila Gentile, veterinarian of the sanctuary, assumed the adoptive maternity of both babies, who need to be closely tracked until they become strong and independent enough.

Bia is already one month and a half and Belinha, one month. Both are daughters of the same father and will be great playing partners in a while.
