TORTURE EFFECTS ARE THE SAME ON CHIMPANZEES AND HUMANS

Chimpanzees submitted to laboratory experiment suffer from the same type of posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) that humans suffer after being submitted to torture.

The conclusions of this work are being presented at a Scientific Congress in Edinburgh, in Scotland, by its author, the american physician Hope Ferdowsian, director of research policy for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
 
Ferdowsian declared: "The high number of mental diseases observed on chimpanzees that we study justifies the proposal of abolishing the use of great primates on laboratories experiments." And added: "Now we know that the mind and feelings of the chimpanzees are affected by experimentation in the same way that the psychological traumas affect humans who are submitted to abuse and torture."

Ferdowsian asks for the world to stop the use of great primates and also the use of monkeys in labs experiments, informing that 3000 monkeys are still being used on medical projects – mainly on the research of human diseases like Parkinson, schizophrenia, psycological disorders, HIV and heart diseases – every year in the United Kingdom because of the similarity of monkeys and humans brains.

The use of chimpanzees in the United Kingdom is forbiden, but they are still used in United States. Last year more than 800 monkeys died on lab experiments in Scotland. In Europe, more than 10000 primates are used on medical experiments every year and some members of the European Parliament are pressioning the authorities to prevent the use.
 
A spokesman of the groupωs campaign for Animals also declared: "There are both good political and public support for Europe to forbid the use of great primates on medical experiments and this work by Dr. Ferdowsian will allow that the last difficulties are solved."
