Brasília, October, 29, 2008: The public audience about the bill proposal 7291/06, which prohibits the use of animals in circus in Brazil, was postponed today in the morning for the third time in less than six months. It won\’t happen on November 4^th anymore, as it was scheduled. National Congress did not inform yet a new date for the meeting.

President of Education and Culture Commission (CEC, in Portuguese), Deputy João Matos, called a meeting with the coordinators of the Commission and they decided to postpone the audience. Animal defense NGO\’s and professionals that work in Brasília do not believe that the new date of the public audience will be schedule for this year.

Launch of Parliament Group in Defense of the Brazilian Circus

The orientation now is to continue the campaigns for the ban of circus with animals and to maintain the efforts and mobilization. It\’s very important to point out that in the same day that the public audience would happen (November 4^th), the Deputies Chamber is going to launch a Parliament Group in Defense of Brazilian Circus.

Then, the call is to everyone keep united and mobilized for the date and go to Brasilia to the Group\’s launch. The idea is to pressure the deputies and show them that animal defenders support the circus, as long as they do not use animals in the shows.

On November 3^rd, at 10 am, NGO\’s and animal protectors will meet at Brasília zoo to organize the articulation and the presence of the group at the Deputies Chamber on the 4th. GAP Project, Animal International Alliance and ADI – Animal Defenders International have already confirmed their presence and ask for the attendance of as many people as possible.

Write to the deputies asking for urgency in the discussion of the bill proposal

Another way to help is to write to the Commission\’s members asking for special attention and urgency to discuss the bill proposal, because such an important subject should not have its discussion postponed without new dates or with no planning.

It\’s very important that everyone participate so that the discussion is not forgotten and is not considered as a politics subject only.
