Switzerland does referendum about lawyers for animals
posted in 02 Feb 2010

Considering the abuses against company and production animals, the Government of Switzerland will do, on March, a referendum defending that every state of the country define a lawyer to defend animals.

Recently, according to BBC, the Constitution was changed to guarantee the protection of the fauna dignity and a law was approved last year, establishing rights for some species of animals.

Lawyer Antoine Goetschel, from Zurich, chosen to defend animals, declared: “Human beings accused of cruelty against animals can hire a lawyer or have one indicated for them, but animals can’t.”

The groups of animal defense have already joint more than 100 thousand signatures that support the popular national consulting.

This is the way for all the societies: to establish laws that guarantee basic rights to animals against the abuse committed by some human beings.
