South Africa: Chimpanzees in danger of being euthanized in Sanctuary
posted in 22 May 2014

A new incident happened at Eden Sanctuary, in South Africa, which is a franchise or concession of Jane Goodall Institute to a private South African group. Two chimps, Nikki and Amadeus, assaulted handlers in the sanctuary, which, as we denounce in the past, does not meet the necessary safety standards and efficient management of great apes in its care

The Sanctuary does not follow the rules and requirements of PASA – Pan African Alliance of Sanctuaries and for this reason, accidents occur often. PASA issued a statement in which it rejects the idea of applying euthanasia in two chimpanzees who are not guilty of what happened , and it would be a terrible, terrible precedent for the policy of conservation of the species on the African continent .

Apparently, the environmental authorities of South African government are the promoters of the idea of euthanasia , when they should demand that the sanctuary adequate its buildings to prevent these accidents from occurring.
GAP Project puts its affiliated sanctuaries in Brazil on hand to greet the two chimpanzees in case African Sanctuaries are unable to receive them, as a way to prevent their death.

GAP Project International vehemently rejects the possible idea of euthanizing healthy young chimpanzees, because they have attacked humans. Chimpanzees are political and innocent prisoners that human society steal their freedom, due to its incompetence to know how to manage the environmental protection and habitat where they are entitled to live , and where they are expelled for criminal actions of traffickers , dealers and corrupt rulers.
