San Diego Airport finally conveys ad against Sea World

Passengers arriving at San Diego International Airport are now greeted with a polite reminder that says that people who really love animals would not pay to see them perform tricks in small tanks. The information is provided by The Dodo.

For the next four weeks, about 50 thousand people who pass through the airport every day will be received by an ad with actress Kathy Najimy, native of the city, who has been an opponent of the practice of keeping orcas in SeaWorld captivity.
After initially refusing to display advertisements discouraging visits to the park, the airport has agreed to publish them after a lawsuit filed by the NGO PETA ( People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ) and ACLU , which claimed that the silencing of their opposition to the marine park of San Diego was discrimination of opinion.

“Nothing is more fundamental to the First Amendment principle that the government may not silence speech because of its point of view,” says ACLU attorney , David Loy . “We are happy that this case resulted in the claim of the right of freedom of expression of PETA to reach visitors to San Diego with the same conditions as any other agent .”

The advertisement comes at a time when the SeaWorld tries to recover from the bad stories promoted in the media. Since the release of the documentary Blackfish, which spoke about the questionable treatment of orcas under the care of the park, the company has faced a storm of criticism , which, together with the decline in frequency and decrease in revenue , suggests that an increasing number of people have understood the message of the ad .
