posted in 30 Jun 2011

Renowned British primatologist Dr. Richard Wrangham is the new member of PASA – Pan African Sanctuaries Alliance’s Board oif Directors.

Richard Wrangham is well known among primates study world. He was one of the first presidents of IPS – International Primatology Society and is also a member of GRASP – Great Apes Survival. He is author of several classical books about the subject, such as

“Demoniac Males” (1996) and “Chimpanzee Culture” (1994). His most recent book, "Catching Fire: How Cooking Made us Human", published in 2009, was praised by critics and shows how the cook of meat made us humans.

Dr. Wrangham always worked together with Dian Fossey, in the mountain gorillas’ project, and with Jane Goodall, with chimpanzees. He also was one of the people who idealized PASA and has a partnership with the institution since it was created.

His presence in PASA will be very worth in order to reinforce the existence of all African sanctuaries, which struggle very hard to keep and rescue the maximum of great apes as possible, in order to take care and reintroduce them, if it is possible, in their habitat.
