In a common effort involving several organizations that work in Africa and coordinated by PASA, an operation that lasted less than 3 weeks has rescued three baby chimpanzees from illegal dealers on the region of Kivu. The chimpanzees were sent to sanctuary Jack, in Lubumbashi, in Democratic Republic of Congo.

The baby chimpanzees, who must not be more than one year old, were caught in several regions of Kivu. They are two females, Etaito and Mavivi, and a male, Udongo. A fourth baby, named Maiko, did not resist to the wounds caused by the caught and died.

According to Doug Cress, PASA Executive Director, "these chimpanzees are alive because several organizations in the area worked together, as a team."

Sanctuary Jack was established in the place of old Lubumbashi zoo and nowadays it homes 19 chimpanzees.
