“GOVERNMENT OF MOZAMBIQUE HUMILIATES A FIGHTER WOMAN”
Ana Alonso has dedicated a part of her life to fight for the endangered forests of Mozambique. With her own resources, she set up a company called EUROMOZ MADEIRA AMIGA. She is a Spanish writer and journalist. Since 1995, she has been waging a struggle for biodiversity, which can take her to lose her life at any time.
She and 200 workers operate a sustainable forestry concession, which allowed the building of schools and homes to these men, many of them demobilized of the civil war that raged, for years, the African country.
Instead of supporting her work, Government of Mozambique conspires against Ana and her group of workers, depriving them the permission to work. Corrupt officials within the Government allow all kinds of depredation of forest remaining in the country, invaded by illegal loggers, especially of Asian origin.
Ana is alone, international agencies, anchored in the UN and in the EU, which should support a heroic work like hers, nor receive, nor answer her calls for help.
Ana does not surrender, but all members of GAP fear for her life hanging by a thread, because at any time the threats she receives can become reality.
All those who fight for the environment should sympathize with the work of this woman, who is an example to be followed. As she said: “It is confirmed what it is to be a woman and an entrepreneur in Africa. I have been doing a heroic work and stayed alone in the jungle longer than Ingrid Betancourt, the Colombian guerrilla prisoner. However, I was free and taught the demobilized of the Civil War to work, transforming those who used to kill people into honored workers. I have built schools for their children and have given food and water for a hungry population… “. So she can pay with her life if the world community does not mobilize and demand that the Government of Mozambique, and the UN, gives her and her work the protection they require.
ANA ALONSO CAN NOT DISAPPEAR DUE TO A KILLER BULLET; SHE IS AN EXAMPLE AND AN EXAMPLE OF A FIGHTER WOMAN IN MODERN SOCIETY!
Let’s protest and demand from the Embassy of Mozambique for her life and her work to be preserved. Contact the Embassy in your country.
