It has been almost one decade since the idea and PASA Project materialized. In 2000, in the first event in Uganda, a group of African sanctuaries participated of the first meeting, organized by Jane Goodall Institute and Reproduction Specialists for Conservation Group.

After that pioneer meeting, called PASA MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP, many others were promoted: Cameroon Republic, in 2001, Kenya, 2002 (where GAP Brazil Project participated as a observer), Uganda, 2003, South Africa, 2004, Kenya, 2005, Uganda, 2006, Rwanda, 2007, Sierra Leona, 2008 and now in Columbus, Ohio, USA, in 2009.

This year event will be the first one outside Africa and will take place on May 19th and 20th, in Columbus, being supported by Columbus Zoo. Among the events that will be promoted there will be a public seminar at Ohio State University in May 21st, when renowned primatologist Dr. Richard Wrangham will do a presentation.

In declarations to the press, PASA\’s Executive Director, Doug Cress, said: "PASA is very proud of every achievement reached in these last 10 years and this meeting will allow us to think and reflect about the way we have been advancing." Doug, who runs the function since 2002, added: "Nevertheless, we also recognized that we still have too much work to be done and this meeting will work as a way to plan next decade."
