MEMBER OF GAP PROJECT

GAP Project, Spain and the great primates lost one of their main defenders. Jordi Sabater was founder and scientific consultant of GAP Spain. He has always been a defender of the rights of great primates in our society.

Executive Director of GAP Project Spain, Pedro Pozas Terrados, remembers with emotion: “Jordi Sabater always supported the Great Primates Project, both its objectives and its work. Since the first day our organization was founded in Spain, Jordi awarded us with his support and worked on our Directive Committee as a Scientific Consultant. He was a person with singular simplicity human qualities and was always ready to collaborate when we needed. He gave his support to Great Primates Defense Proposition, presented and approved in the Parliament and the Government has not been accomplishing it since 2008. Jordi was not able to accomplish his dream, which was to see a public declaration of Spanish Government recognizing the rights of the great primates in Spain. In recognition of the person, his work and his love for the non-human hominids, we are going to continue to fight for their rights and for the protection of their habitat with all our strength and assuming all the consequences.”

To sum it up, Director of GAP Spain concluded his tribute with these words: “There is no doubt that Jordi has met Copito de Nieve (the white gorilla of Barcelona zoo discovered by Jordi) in the stars garden. He used to say that there will come the day that we are   going to be embarrassed by the way we are treating the great primates, converting them in our slaves in zoos or destroying them in the forests.”
