LORO AQUATIC PARK

Director of GAP Spain, Pedro Pozas Terrados, did a presentation to Spanish environmental authorities and explained the situation of mistreating faced by orca whales and dolphins at Loro Park, in Santa Cruz, Tenerife. He asks for inspections of the practices and of the utilities and for its closing due to inadequate use conditions, taking the animals back to nature.

SEPRONA is the Spanish Civil Guard Nature Protection Service and does a work similar to Brazilian Environmental Police. In the large document registered by SEPRONA last May 15 it had been listed all the irregularities of the aquatic park. They consider the fact that orca whales and dolphins swim thousand of kilometers per month straight ahead and dive 500 meters underneath and at the park are submitted to live in small pools and do acrobatic works in exchange to food (dead fishes), things they would never do in the wild.

GAP Project Spain communication also calls the population not to collaborate with the existence of these aquatic parks and not to visit them or to participate of shows in which these animals are presented.

Today it is discussed in a lot of countries the role of these animals in the parks, which turn to generate stressed and violent animals, because they are not living in their habitat and are forced to do works with no motivation and only for exchange for food.
