GAP Project Spain remains steadfast in the struggle for free Morgan in the Atlantic Ocean, along with a coalition of organizations fighting for the same purpose.

And a new enhancement has been added to this fight. Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of legendary Commander Cousteau, reinforce the movement to free the whale, who remains in a water tank at Loro Parque, in Canary Island, Spain, to where he was sent by the Government of Netherlands.

Even the Queen of Spain joined the controversy when, in response to a request from the GAP Project Spain, sent a letter to the Ministry of Environment of her country, questioning the reasons for keeping Morgan as a prisoner.

One of the obstacles to release Morgan in the ocean is the need to find members of his original group, so he can be easily integrated and not be rejected. Biologist Heike Vester announced last July 18th that he had located a male – identified as P118 – which presumably appears to be part of the group where Morgan was.

To Professor of Neuroscience and Behavioral Biologist of Atlanta, USA, Lori Marino, and the Orca Coalition, as told to the newspaper El Pais, all these things they say are arguments to try to justify the non-reintegration of Morgan to nature. They declare that: “The brain of whales have a size and complexity that is just below the human beings. They are able to understand symbols and are aware of themselves and should not be in captivity. In the wild, they swim 60 km daily and when they are inside a tank, they stress, get depressed and start to have health problems. ”

In a few weeks more, the Dutch justice will review the case again and on September 19^th ,  the European Parliament Committee will consider the fate of Morgan.
