In the heart of North America: a history of horror
posted in 31 Jul 2014

Scotty was born on October 21, 1982, from a female chimpanzee who had no name, she was the number CH-490; and from an unknown father. When he was two years old, he was immersed in a small cage hanging from the ceiling of a laboratory name Lemsip, in the State of New York, the heart of North America.

He came out of that damn cubicle only 12 years later, after being anesthetized with ketamine 349 times, and his blood collected in each procedure. His liver was punctured 91 times with a thick needle that drew pieces of it.

And he managed to survive!

He was transferred to another “theater of horrors” of the North American torture against chimpanzees, the Coulston Foundation, in New Mexico. There he could at least step on the floor since he lived suspended in the air for 12 years.

In 2002 his luck changed. Save the Chimps Sanctuary bought the bankrupt facilities of the foundation and he was transferred to the Sanctuary in Florida. Like all his comrades tortured in Lemsip, he was terrified of being under the open sky, however, ended up getting used to it, along with his misfortunes friends, and  enjoyed the last years of his eventful and premature life.

His kidneys were devastated by the tests and the torture he was submitted to and could no longer resist. His soul left this earth, which only gave him suffering. He did not take hatred in his mind, he was gentle and kind to humans, and respected by his peers. Maybe now free and loose, he finds happiness that humans have always denied to him.

Scotty 1982-2014. Rest in peace!
