SALVADOR, BAHIA
An important event starts on August 25 at Salvador, capital of Bahia state, in Brazil. The II World Conference of Bioethics and Animal Rights is being organized by Dr. Heron Santana, one of the authors of the Habeas Corpus ordered in favor of chimpanzee Jimmy, and a group of collaborators. The themes bioethics and animal rights are going do be discussed in depth in the event.
Among the international participants is phylosofer Peter Singer, founder of GAP Project, who is talk in a vídeo-conference. Other participants are well known animal rights defenders, like Steven Wise, David Cassuto, Pamela Frasch, Carlos Maria Romeo Casabona, Kathy Hessler and the most important animal defenders of Brazil.
The conference will take place until August 28 and is being sponsored by Bahia Federal University and Animal Abolition Institute. GAP Project will be represented by Dr. Selma Mandruca, who will give a lecture in the debate about circuses and zoos.
This event has international importance and will give the opportunity to case Jimmy and his Habeas Corpus to be discussed and highlighted. In recognition to the effort that animal defenders are doing to produce this event, Brazilian Judicial System could concede the desired freedom planed for Jimmy, who today is a symbol of the fight for the rights of the great primates and of all animals of the planet.
