GAP Spain claims for the closure of Guantanamo of the simians
posted in 14 Mar 2013

There is an establishment in Spain called “La Granja de Primates of Camarles” in Tarragona. In that place there are hundreds of different species of monkeys, which are maintained and reproduced to fuel biomedical experimentation in Europe.

GAP Project Spain has circulated a report among all Members of the Spanish Congress requesting their intervention to proceed with the closing of this torture center for apes under the justification of biomedical experimentation.

There is a Royal Decree in the country, published this year (Decree 53/2013), which determines the care that all animals used in scientific experimentation should receive, if there are no other methods available that obviate their use as guinea pigs.

GAP Spain qualifies the place as “Guantanamo of the simians”, where living beings are kept indefinitely in disrepair. At the same time, GAP affirms that has received  information that there are a lot of ill monkeys in the Granja, including infected with herpes and mange, which are highly contagious diseases.

GAP Spain denounce requests that authorities demand the closure of that center of torture and the transference of the apes to sanctuaries or suitable places, where they can recover from the miserable life they have.
