From August 28-30, GAP Project participated in the 4th World Congress of Bioethics and Animal Rights, held at the University Center of the Federal District (UDF), in Brasília, Brazil. This edition, more than the previous ones, showed how the issue has gained importance in the legal environment. Besides the discussion of several important issues,  such as the Arouca Law and  Habeas Corpus in behalf of great apes, among others, the event was attended by Ministers from the Supreme Court, judges and prosecutors and other members of Public Ministry.

The highlight was the opening speech delivered by the Minister Benjamin Herman, where he pointed the need to rethink the position of animals, also claiming the right to be possible to proceed without traumatic solutions, to make adjustments in the binary attitude of Brazilian law (subject x thing) through arrangements in procedural law.

Dra. Selma Mandruca

President, GAP Project Brazil
