First Argentine primate is released
posted in 22 Apr 2015

On April 14, he reached the city of Cordoba, and was later transferred to the refuge of Caraya Project at La Cumbre. He was the first capuchin monkey that Argentina Justice granted a writ of amparo and his release from a cage at the zoo Rawson.

This appeal, which is similar to a Habeas Corpus for humans, was filed by the Animal Dignity organization, of environmentalist Alejandro Krebs, and the Argentine Association of Environmental Lawyers, represented by Dr. Lujan Perez Torrone.

The fate of the monkey Felipe is the first that we know of in the Argentine judicial history and opens the way for other similar resources, and later Habeas Corpus, to be granted in various cases awaiting resolution in High Courts in the country.

Alejandra Juarez, representative of GAP Project in Argentina and Director of the Caraya Project Rescue Center (howler), worked closely with the mentioned organizations and with the Justice for a quick release of Felipe, who lived for more than five years as a prisoner in a Zoo.
