FEMALE ELEPHANT IS CONFISCATED BY IBAMA IN CURITIBA

A female elephant called Bambi has been confiscated temporarily by Ibama in Curitiba. She was with Circus Moscou, but it seems that she really belongs to Circus Orlando Orfei, which owns a significant quantity of animals.

In order not be guilty with an apprehension, the circus affirmed that the elephant would go to a thematic park in Chile, but gave no details of it. But hardly Chilian authorities would allow this importation.

Technicians from Ibama and from Paraná University made inspections in the circus and identified lack of hygiene in the area that the elephant was kept. They tried to read the microchip implanted in the animal’s ear, but, according to the people from the circus, the scanner used was not compatible with the chip implanted. Today they will do another try.

There is a local law in Curitiba (Nº 1.246) that prohibits presentations of circuses with animals in the city. The circus is located beside Pinheirão Stadium, in Tarumã neighborhood.
