Electronic party is allowed to happen less than one kilometer away from a zoo in Brazil

After two initial denials, the Brazilian Federal Environmental Agency – Ibama – approved yesterday the third project submitted by the organization of Dream Valley Festival

After almost two months and two projects denied, the organizers of Dream Valley Festival managed to convince Ibama that the big party that aims to join on November 16 and 17 about 25 thousand people to a small city in which are located Beto Carrero Park and Zoo, which hosts over 700 different species of animals, will not cause harm to the animals. The organization of the electronic party argue that the event will take place 500 meters away of the area of the zoo – and not 200 meters, as in the original project.

The Public Ministry (MP) is studying this last project approved by Ibama, since the other two projects had already been denied because they represent life threatening to the animals.

Pedro Ynterian, President of GAP Project International, considered the decision of approving the party absurd. His argument is based on the fact that the hearing of wild animals is very delicate, infinitely more sensitive than the human ear. These animals hear sounds from miles away and, according to Pedro, they may lose mental stability and even gone dead if they submitted to a large period of high noises, especially cats and primates, such as monkeys and lions.

“How can you think that a sound on the level of a rave will not disturb and even cause death to some animals due to stress?”, he points, affirming that the more regrettable is that the direction of the park, which keeps the zoo, knows the risks to the animals, but does not pronounce and allows a festival of this size to be held in their facilities.

The press tried to talk to veterinarians and biologists of Beto Carrero Park/Zoo. A spokesperson for the park said no one would comment on the party.
