150 thousand Piton snakes infect Florida

On July 2009, an Asian Piton snake that was kept as a pet in Charles Darnell’s house escaped from its cage, went to his daughter room, two-year-old Hare, and suffocated her to death. Since 1980, these same snakes killed 12 children who kept them at home and wounded more than 100 people.

Million of wild animals live at North-American family houses, kill two humans per year and hurt other thousand. For USD 300 you can buy a tiger at United States and there are seven thousand tigers as pets in the country, more than the number of animals that live in the wild.

Florida wetlands are infected with Asian Piton snakes, aggressive and predators. They reproduce in large scale and it is estimated that there are 150 thousand of them killing other animals and put in risk the lives of humans.

The case of chimpanzee Travis – one year ago he almost killed 56-year-old Carla Nash, friend of the chimpanzee’s owner who was trying to avoid his runaway – is leading North-American federal law men to vote a Captive Primate Safety Act, which intends to forbid the selling of primates between states.

Only 28 North-American states have a strict legislation to the selling and ownership of wild animals. Humane Society is demanding that the states that do not have an appropriate legislation approve it.

Readers Digest Magazine – edition April 2010 shows this and other similar cases at an article signed by Michael Crowley. The article asks North-American people to have an attitude in order to prohibit wild animals being kept at family houses.
