This is the name of a very interesting study recently published in the scientific journal PLOS Biology, which has made headlines in the last few weeks. In general terms, the research states that chimpanzees would also use military recognition tactics based on observations of “enemy territory” from high elevations.
The study is based on three years of field data collected from wild chimpanzees in Côte d’Ivoire. With evidence of this tactical ability, which until now had not been recognized in any species other than man, the study reveals that chimpanzees demonstrate a very high level of strategic thinking and decision-making in territorial disputes.
