posted in 30 Nov 2009

One month after arriving in Brazil, chimpanzees Mizrachi and Katty got out the quarantine and moved to their definitive enclosure at GAP Sanctuary in Paraná. The left quarantine in November 18 and adapted quickly to the area prepared specially for them by Anami Institute, responsible for the sanctuary in São José dos Pinhais.

The enclosure has about 10000 square meters and the external area counts with a beautiful wood park, a 20 meters bridge, a 10 meters tower and a swimming pool, so they can fresh up and quench their thirst.

The walls are all painted with beautiful landscapes and there are three big windows of 3.5 x 2.5 meters made with bulletproof glass that guarantee security and a better view both for the chimpanzees and for the sanctuary team. To the garden it has been developed a gardening project with trees and a lot of grass, so they do not forget their origin.

In the internal area there is a big hall with the painted walls. In this hall there are several toys, like hoses, tires and iron bars. The bedrooms have a net used as a bed, a mattress coated with a layer of rubber and it was developed a heat system so that in the cold days the new guests are kept warmed.

Katty and Mizrachi are adapting very well to the new home. Like the others, they receive three meals a day. They do not dismiss any kind of food, but what they like the most is smashed fruit and vegetables, especially lettuce. Early in the morning, at 7am, the gates are opened so they can enjoy the external area. Mizrachi plays with everything. Katty is more cautious and prefer to stay inside her enclosure, but do not avoid playing in the garden. Late in the afternoon, at 5pm, they come back by themselves to their bedrooms.
