Chimpanzee’s “autobiography” competes to British literature award

‘Me Cheeta’ tells a supposed story life of the “actress” of Tarzan. The book competes to Booker Prize with renowned writers

A supposed autobiography of a movie chimpanzee is among the candidates of the most prestigious British literature award.

"Me Cheeta" is one of the thirteen books on the preliminary list of Booker Prizes. Originally published anonymously, James Lever’s book would tell the life story of the ape who became a star in
Hollywood on the 30’s, starring Tarzan’s movies.

Among the candidates for the prize announced on July 28 are the already awarded A.S. Byatt and J.M. Coetzee, not to mention Adam Foulds, Sarah Hall, Samantha Harvey, Hilary Mantel, Simon Mawer, Ed O’Loughlin, James Scudamore, Sarah Waters, William Trevor and Colm Toibin.
