CHIMPANZEE IS KILLED BY SHOTS IN UNITED STATES
posted in 17 Feb 2009
Chimpanzee Travis used to live with a family in Stamford, in the state of Connecticut, USA, as a pet. He was very civilized. He took baths by himself, used the toilet, wore clothes and ate his meals at a table, according to his owner in a report made in the time of a runaway of the chimpanzee in 2003, publicized by agencies Globo and AP.

Now, in 2009, the chimpanzee attacked a friend of the owners, a 50 year-old lady, who was visiting them. She had been hurt on the face and was hospitalized. The owner called the police and told that she was using a knife to control the chimpanzee. When the police arrived, the chimpanzee did not have a good reaction and was killed by shots.

United States are a paradise to different animals considered to be pets in people\’s houses. There is no legislation that controls this practice. This will not be the last case that beings like chimpanzee Travis, considered to be civilized, will have a disagreement with someone and end up being killed, with no compassion or mercy, by the police.

Chimpanzees are not beings to be kept by force or isolated in captivity, nor to be exhibited in circus, zoos or to live in private houses. Their right to live with their equals is being denied in these situations everyday and this must end.

Travis has been sacrificed, with no need, by human imprudence.
