Casey and Murray arrive

CENTER FOR GREAT APES SANCTUARY

Casey and Murray waited for years for this moment. No sanctuary in United States had room to receive more chimpanzees. Casey, 22 years old, and Murray, 18, used to live in small cages in a house in New York since they were babies. Their owners failed in trying to send them to several sanctuaries, until the sanctuary in Wauchula, Florida, agreed to receive them, as long as new facilities were built in the last few months due to donations they were able to collect.

Two organizations that support chimpanzees, Project Chimp Care, from Chicago, and The Kendall Project, from North Caroline, collected USD 5 thousand to pay for the transport from New York to Florida. The former owners are also asking to friends, through the internet, donations to support the maintenance of the primates at Wauchula.

Both chimpanzees are at the sanctuary, getting used to the new life, which means more space, fresh food and the company of several other chimpanzees, whom they are not used to be with. In the next weeks they will be integrated to some of the existing groups and will be able to forget the past of poor memories.
