CORRIERE DE LA SERA, ITALIA
Na article published by Reuters Agency about GAP Project and Great Primates Sanctuary of Sorocaba, the story of Jimmy (who is waiting, for months, for judicial decision about his liberty from a prison and absurd slavery that suffers for years in a small cage at Niterói Zoo, at Rio de Janeiro state) has been spread all over the world.
Bellow we reproduce an article published on August 10 in the well known Italian newspaper Corriere de La Será. The world promotion of the Habeas Corpus ordered for the liberty of chimpanzee Jimmy from his unfair and illegal prison at the zoo puts Brazil in the world challenge of reaching the rights that the animals have to be respected and not being used for human entertainment.
Brazilian Judicial System has a dilemma with International Justice: to demonstrate that it is one of the most advanced of the world in the defense of the rights of the minorities and the defenseless ones, or one of the most retrograde, if it denies this right to the innocent beings.
Brazilian people have already given their vote in favor of Jimmy’s freedom in a public consultancy done in the beginning of this year. Now the world also demands for Justice, which is on the hands of our Judges and is about to be done.
