At the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, it is one of the paintings by Brent, a 38-year old chimpanzee, resident, until days ago, of Chimp Haven Sanctuary, in Louisiania.
Brent arrived at the sanctuary in 2006. For most of his life he lived alone, apparently in a family home. His integration with other chimps was doubtful, but he created a strong friendship with two other chimps at the Sanctuary, Les and Grandma.
In the following years became a world-renowned artist and his paintings won First Prize for Chimp Art in America , promoted by la Humane Society .
He painted differently, because he used his tongue, which made him even more an artist of extraordinary merit.
Brent died days ago, it seems, unexpectedly. The Sanctuary has not indicated the cause of his health or if he was was sick, but the board of Chimp Haven, announcing his disappearance, mentioned that he had lived at least happy the last years of his life, near his equals and that handlers developed a deep love for him and his way of relating .
