The last parks of the United States that continued to force orangutans to act on stage – Universal Studios of Hollywood and Orlando – officially retired the primates of all their shows with “animal actors”. Since 2009, NGO PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) advocates for the parks to stop using apes in entertainment. The information is from Latin PETA blog.

As the organization revealed in the award winning video “98 % human” , orangutans and other apes used as “actors” are often separated from their mothers when they are babies , which traumatizes not only the puppies but also the adults . A primatologist who spent 14 months working undercover in the facilities in California, where great apes are trained to the entertainment industry, saw coaches kicking and striking chimpanzees. When they are about 8 years old, the animals become unmanageable and are routinely discarded in zoos, among other places .

One of the first people that PETA has publicly denounced was the “entertainer” Bobby Berosini, from Las Vegas, who was caught beating orangutans in the backstage about 25 years ago. Now, with the decision of Universal , these shows have become a thing of the past.
